As I search and surf the Internet to determine what people talk about celiac disease, I see an alarming trend: people often do not realize that a wheat allergy is different from an allergy to gluten. In fact, many people and many sites incorrectly use these terms interchangeably.
It 'important for you to understand how these two health conditions are two completely different medical situations and why it is essentialappreciate the difference between them.
What is an allergy to wheat?
A wheat allergy is more like most of the allergies that often feels like hay fever or allergies to pets. It is a histamine reaction in which certain white blood cells (called bastophils) and mast cells respond to immunoglobulin E (IgE). It is an autoimmune disease and can be a bit 'well treated in most cases with an antihistamine.
Wheat allergies are manifestedwith symptoms such as hives, skin rash, itching, sneezing, watery eyes and sometimes stomach pain or mouth (language, some people react to wheat). These symptoms occur almost immediately after consumption of grain.
What is gluten intolerance?
Gluten intolerance, or celiac disease or gluten sensitivity through the non-celiac (NCGS) is an autoimmune disease that manifests its symptoms in time. Gluten intolerance is a systemic response to glutenin proteinsand gliadin in gluten. When the antibodies in your system unusually strong reaction to these proteins, they attack the lining of your small intestine.
Over time, the villi through your small intestine mucosa and consume less able to digest nutrients from food. Contrary to what many seem to think, this is not an immediate response. Sometimes it can take years for symptoms caused by intolerance to gluten (although it usually takes months ora couple of weeks).
Do not mean to suggest that they are less stringent, in fact, the symptoms of gluten intolerance can be very serious and even fatal if should be treated. Fatigue and depression to severe malnutrition (and more), the long-term effects are terrible.
So I hope you now better the difference between these two phenomena to understand health. Wheat allergies are a reaction to histamine that occurs immediately after you consume foods with wheat. Gluten intolerance is aautoimmune disease that manifests its symptoms in time and will occur if you eat any food containing gluten (wheat products only). If you suffer from gluten intolerance, it is imperative that you remove all gluten from the diet.
